al-Qaeda Emir al-Zawahiri Surpasses Annual Average, On Track to Set Highest Annual Audio/Video Release Rate Ever

Al-Qaeda Emir Ayman al-Zawahiri has surpassed his annual average for audio/video releases in 2022 and is on track to set a new annual release rate record. He has so far had 12 audio/video releases for 2022, as of 14 Jul.. If al-Zawahiri sustains the current 2022 rate of one release every 16.25 days, he will set a new annual record. His current record was set in 2012 when he had 22 releases. His daily release rate is up 649% from 2021 and he is already at his highest annual rate in three years.

Methodology Note:
The analysis includes all audio/video releases in which the speaker makes a new statement. Releases done in multiple parts were counted as one release per part even if two parts came out on the same day. Alternate language versions by the official group and supporter groups were not counted.
