al-Qaeda Arabian Peninsula's (AQAP) al-Malahim Ends 2019 with Lowest Video Release Rate Ever, 77% Drop from 2018

Al-Qaeda Arabian Peninsula's (AQAP) al-Malahim media arm released only seven videos in 2019. It marks al-Malahim's lowest annual release rate ever and a 77% drop from 2018. The next lowest was in 2009, 2011 and 2012 when the group released nine videos each year.

Video releases peaked in 2014 with 99 and then had a steep decline down to 28 in 2016 with a brief resurgence in 2017 to 57. In 2018, al-Malahim resumed the decline down to 30 and then seven in 2019.

Al-Malahim released 358 videos since the formation of AQAP in 2009 to 2019. It amounts to more than 97 hours of footage with an average runtime of 0:16:24. The shortest video was 0:00:29 and the longest was 1:38:39.
