al-Qaeda Emir Ayman al-Zawahiri: 778% Increase in Daily Audio/Video Release Rate from 2021, On Track to Tie Highest Quarter Ever

Al-Qaeda Emir Ayman al-Zawahiri so far had five audio/video releases for Q2 2022, as of 19 May. If al-Zawahiri sustains the current 2022 rate of one release every 13.9 days, he will hit eight releases in Q2. It would mark it as a tie with his highest quarter ever, which was Q3 2016.

Al-Zawahiri is currently putting out new audio/video releases in 2022 at a rate of one every 13.9 days compared to the 2021 rate of one every 122 days. It represents a 778% increase in the daily release rate. As of 19 May 2022, al-Zawahiri had 10 releases for 2022.

Methodology Note:
The analysis includes all audio/video releases in which the speaker makes a new statement. Releases done in multiple parts were counted as one release per part even if two parts came out on the same day. Alternate language versions by the official group and supporter groups were not counted.
